The painting. Blush is the quietest painting in the shop. Soft washes of pale pink and peach spread across a white ground, and a single fine drawn form, a long loop that drops down from the top, crosses the canvas. A few small spatters near the bottom are the only other marks. It's sparse and light, and it leaves a lot of room for the wall around it.

Where it works. It suits places where you want calm: a bedroom, a bathroom, a dressing area or a hallway. Pale pink is a surprisingly easy neutral, and it looks good with white, warm grey, terracotta and natural wood. A white or oak frame keeps it soft; black makes it more graphic.

Because the painting is so pale, it needs size to hold a wall, so it's worth going one size up from your first instinct.
