The painting. Commune shows a row of seated figures painted as flat, overlapping shapes, with fine lines drawn over them to pick out faces and hands. Red, black, grey, orange and navy figures sit above a dark curved ground, all set against a warm cream background. The flat colour gives it a calm, poster-like clarity, while the line drawing rewards a closer look.

Where it works. A row of people sitting together suits the dining room particularly well, above a sideboard or along the wall behind the table. It also works in a living room or an office. The warm cream and orange pair with oak, terracotta and leather, and the navy ties in with darker textiles.

Choosing a size. The true-scale size guide (the last photo on this page) shows a range of sizes above a large sofa, with a person for reference. The wide format follows the line of a sofa or sideboard naturally: one of the larger sizes covers about two-thirds of a large sofa, and the largest fills the wall. Above a long sideboard, a mid size is a comfortable fit, and a smaller one suits a hallway. Every available size, with its exact measurements, is listed in the size options.

Format. A landscape canvas in a range of sizes, from a small accent piece to a statement wall.
