The painting. Hush is a reclining woman painted in soft greys and warm flesh tones, with a red flower in her hair. Pale blue fills the upper left corner, black and white stripes run down the left edge, and bands of pink, yellow and green lie beneath her. The mood is quiet and private, a moment of rest.

Where it works. Its calm subject suits a bedroom, above the bed or opposite it, and it also works in a reading corner or a quiet living room. The pale blue, pink and grey sit well with soft white, blue-grey or blush walls, and with light wood and linen.

Choosing a size. The true-scale size guide (the last photo on this page) shows a range of the square sizes above a large sofa, with a person for reference. Above a king-size bed, one of the two largest canvases covers roughly two-thirds of the width. Above a double or queen bed, a mid-to-large square gives the same proportion.
